TOM KITTEN SENDS KISSES TO A YOUNG AUTHOR: A LILLIPUTIAN LETTER OF POTTER
In a tiny hand, the author writes: "Dear Alexander, Your book is lovely. I have read it all. I do like Toby in the motor. A little girl has sent me 'Fluffy-dog's' photo by same post, but I like Toby best. I am sending you some pictures of me to paint. You can use crayons, paint is messy. Tom Kitten X X X X X X X X." Not in Letters to Childern from Beatrix Potter, ed. Judy Taylor (London, 1992).
[With:] POTTER. Autograph letter signed ("Beatrix Potter") to "Dear Mrs. Brown" (mother of Alexander B.), London, 20 January 1912. 2 pages, 8vo, integral blank. Fine. Tom Kitten's creator writes to the mother of Alexander, a young admirer who had apparently sent Potter a book of his own creation: "I am exceedingly amused with the little book, pictured and composed by Alexander - and still more amused to hear that you find Squirrel Nutkin useful for correction of naughty manners! It is pleasant to hear - from all over the world, that my books are useful, as well as amusing." Together two items. (2)
