Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Margret Klinge for confirming the attribution in a letter dated 15 August 2000 after inspection of the picture in the original. She dates the present work to the first half of the 1640s when the artist was active in Antwerp. The great detail and strong colouring of the picture shows Teniers' growing interest in landscapes.
