Lot Essay

K.A. Somov recorded in his diary a visit to the antiquarian Popov in Paris on 5 February 1926, 'I was completely enraptured by his 6 small drawings by Zichy, pencil figures of hunters of the time of Alexander II with charming watercolour faces. That is the very real complete craftmanship'; see the Series of the World of Art, Konstantin Andreevich Somov, (Moscow, 1979), p.296.
