Lot Essay

The attribution has been advanced by Alistair Laing in a letter dated 18 July 2000. He compares the present works to a pair of canvases in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Caen, (see catalogue of the exhibition Piranèse et les Français, Rome, Villa Medici, 1976, nos. 82 and 82bis).
