The subject would appear to be taken not from Greek myth but an Italian adaptation of the story by Gabriello Chiabrera (Il rapimento di Cefalo). The adaption tells the story of Aurora and her love for Cephalus. Cephalus had spurned Aurora's advances and in doing so distracted Aurora from her daily duty of leading Helios through the heavens. Cupid is said to have made Cephalus return the love of Aurora, she then carried him off to the heavens in her chariot.
