FIRST EDITION, A FINE COPY of the future Lord Mulgrave's "important addition to early nautical science in the polar regions... The Phipps-Lutwidge voyage aboard Racehorse and Carcass is perhaps better remembered for the presence of young Horatio Nelson, as midshipman aboard the Carcass, and his encounter with a polar bear" (Hill). This is the official account of the voyage, as against that published in the same year by F. Newbery by a member of the expedition. They reached 80o 48'N but were then blocked by ice.
