Half-titles. 28 engraved plates of mammals after Thomas Landseer in volume I and 50 hand-colored lithographic plates of birds after William Swainson in volume II. (Volume II with ink-spotting on fore-edge, some scattered soiling and spotting, a few marginal repairs.) Modern plain paper wrappers; quarter-morocco folding cases. Provenance: J. Farr (ownership signature in pencil on title-page of volume I).

FIRST EDITION. Richardson accompanied Sir John Franklin on his overland expeditions to northern North America as naturalist and surgeon, adding much useful knowledge to the natural history of the fur-trading regions.
