[FORT TICONDEROGA]. JEFFRYS, Thomas. Engraved map: A Plan of the Town and Fort of Carillon at Ticonderoga; with the attack made by the British Army Commanded by Genl. Abercrombie 8 July 1758. London: Jeffreys, n.d. 376 x 479 mm., partial handcoloring in red, green, yellow and brown of the representations of the different British, French and colonial units engaged, very pale discoloration at bottom edge, matted and glazed in a fine burl-wood frame. An attractively engraved, extremely detailed plan of the historic Fort on Lake Champlain ("the key to the Continent"), known as Fort Carillon to the French. It shows the surrounding terrain and the lines of the French and English armies during the unsuccessful British assault. Entrenchments to the East of the Fort were manned by a garrison of some 3500 men under the Marquis de Montcalm; Abercromby's larger forces stormed these lines unsuccessfully, suffering heavy casualties before the attack was broken off.
