Lot Essay

These tables' reed-enriched trestle-ends terminating in Grecian-scrolled 'claws' relate very closely to a writing-table illustrated in the 1818 Estimate Sketch Book of Gillows of Lancaster (Westminster Library, ref. no. 2079; see: G. Wills, Craftsmen and Cabinet-Makers of Classic English Furniture, Edinburgh, 1974, pl. 108).
