Montrachet--Vintage 1978
Côte de Beaune, Ramonet
Levels: 2.0cm or better; soiled labels and one corroded capsule
Just as Domaine Leflaive is pre-eminent in Puligny, or Comtes Lafon in Meursault, so Domaine Ramonet has dominated the Chassagne-Montrachet scene, for upwards of 60 years. This estate was one of the first to Domaine-bottle - thanks to the vision of Frank Schoonmaker in the 1930s. The Ramonet family has been consistently brilliant, through three generations, in their talent, rigour, and sheer determination. The Montrachet 1978 has remarkable concentration and great personality (unmarred by intrusive wine-maker input) with steely beauty, harmony and length. AH
