Lot Essay

This plate would appear to be closely related to the service made for the Duke of Wellington although there are some slight variances in the border decoration, see Winfried Baer and Ilse Baer, The Prussian Service The Duke of Wellington's Berlin Dinner Service 1817-1819 (1988), for a full discussion of this service. The border decoration on each plate from the service is different and one plate from the service has a very similar border to the present example see Winfried Baer and Ilse Baer, ibid., p. 113, no. 72, although the decoration is flanked by white lines and bordered by a single rope-twist band.
