Lot Essay

Nijinsky first danced Giselle with the Ballets Russes at the Théâtre De L'Opéra, Paris, with Karsavina, on June 18th, 1910 and later with Pavlova, at Covent Garden in 1911.

This costume was apparently given by Diaghilev to his business manager, Grigoriev, in 1918 before later passing to Mrs. Vera Bowen.
