Lot Essay

Bartolozzi left his native Italy in 1764 and spent most of his life in England, where he worked as an engraver and exhibited eighteen times at the Royal Academy between 1736 and 1798. In 1802 he left London for Lisbon to take up the position of director of the National Academy, which he held until 1813.
