Lot Essay

A rapid drawing, exhibited with Walkers Galleries, is signed, inscribed and dated 'Wm Callow Teatro Marcillus [sic] Roma/May 15. 1876'. The present watercolour is worked up from this sketch done on the spot, showing the Theatre of Marcellus, looking east, towards Via Teatro Marcello.
