Lot Essay

As Rhoda Eitel-Porter kindly pointed out, this drawing seems to be by the same hand as a sheet in Chicago in the same technique, S. Folds McCullagh and L. Giles, Italian Drawings before 1600 in the Art Institute of Chicago, Princeton, 1997, no. 388.
The artist was probably working in the circle of Cesare Rosetti (c.1565-1623/44), and his style is close to that of Cesare Pollini and Sebastiano Folli.
