A FAMILLE ROSE MONTEITH
Mid-18th century
Of massive oval outline with slightly splayed foot and flaring, notched rim, enamelled around the exterior with leafy clusters of chrysanthemum, peony, lilies, prunus and small daisies, all between molded bands of sepia and gilt trellis pattern, interior and exterior rim decorated with floral sprays

A very similar monteith is in the collection of the Museum of Anastacio Goncalves, Lisbon, and illustrated by M.A. Pinto de Matos, Chinese Export Porcelain, p. 255, where she notes that it was acquired at the 1947 Ferreira Monteiro sale and exhibited in 1992, China e Islao, CMAG
