A CHAMBERLAINS'S WORCESTER CRESTED RICH KAKIEMON PART DINNER SERVICE
Circa 1810, purple script Chamberlain's Worcester mark and pattern no. 298 to one soup plate and both plates, incised 10 to the stands
The border painted in the 'Rich Kakiemon' style in the 'Dejeuney' pattern with flowers reserved within trellis cartouches on the cobalt-blue ground richly gilt with sprigs between bands of interlaced scallops and pendant flowerheads, The center with the crest of a black hound seated on a black and white striped baton beneath a puce ribbon inscribed with the motto Faithful not Fawning, comprising:
A pair of reticulated lozenge-shaped fruit baskets and stands, 10¾in. (25.7cm.) wide, the stands
An oval soup tureen, cover and stand, the stand with shell handles, 15¾in. (38.4cm.) wide, the stand
Two dinner plates, 9½in. (24.9cm.) diameter
Two soup plates, 9½in. (24.9cm.) diameter
A pair of cylindrical ice pails with shell handles, covers and liners, the interior of the liners also decorated, 11¼in. (29cm.) high (14)

Lot Essay

See Geoffrey A. Godden, Chamberlain-Worcester Porcelain 1788-1852, London, 1982, p. 117, 320, plates 125, 134, 135, and color plate XI for the service made 1815-1819 for Sir James Yeo in the same richly decorated pattern as the present example but with his crest and orders and plate 89 for a basket of similar form. Crests, orders etc. could be added to any pattern at an added cost of 10 shillings extra for each piece.
