A COALPORT (JOHN ROSE) IMARI PART TEA SERVICE
1805-1810
Painted in the Imari palette of iron-red and underglazed blue with flowering branches of peony and chrysanthemum issuing from a two- handled urn within a fretwork fence, the floor of iron-red whorls, the border with oval panels of a tiger, a butterfly and a crane each within landscapes of similar flowers issuing from rockwork on a scale ground, each panel separated by an iron-red mann reserved on a gold ground.
Comprising:
An oval teapot, cover and stand, 6in. (15.2cm.) high A cream jug 3.15/16in. (10cm.) high An oval sugar bowl and cover 5.11/16in. (14.4cm.) high A waste bowl 66in. (16.3cm.) diam A plate, 86in. (21.7cm.)
Five teacups, 26.in (5.8cm.)
Three coffee cans, 2½.in. (6.4cm.)
Six saucers, 5¼in. (13.4cm.)
Together with:
An English Imari ice pail, porbably Coalport and decorated in a variant Imari pattern 7¾in. (19.7cm) high, and a English Imari Bough Pot, 73/8in. (18.7cm) high. (22)
