BMW's Isetta is probably the most popular and recognisable of all Bubble cars; built between 1955-1962, the concept was based on the company's attempt to adjust to a changing car market in post-war Europe. The simplistic design was taken from an idea that originated with the Iso company in Milan, Italy.

Power was from a 247cc BMW motor cycle engine positioned at the rear, and the entire drivetrain was then packed in ahead of and between the narrowly spaced rear wheels. From October 1956 a second body became available and now featured a 297cc engine.

This 1960 example has been comprehensively restored and, in the words of the owner, is "absolutely sparkling and in good running order". Certainly the little car looks to be immaculate, with bright red paintwork, cream interior upholstery and red carpeting.

It is offered for sale with an original, old style log book, current tax-exempt Registration document, MOT to March 1998, various bills and repair invoices, Isetta Owner's Club news letters from 1985 onward (the car is featured on the front cover of the June 91 issue), Owner's Handbook, maintainance manual and two wall size mechanical illustration diagrams.

A Christie's car sale would not be complete without one!
