ROOSEVELT, Franklin. Government -- Not Politics. New York: Covici Friede, [1932]. Original red cloth; original pictorial dust-jacket. Provenance: the Library of Eleanor Roosevelt.

FIRST EDITION. A scarce title, Government -- Not Politics was published on 28 July 1932, the day the army under MacArthur broke up the encamped Bonus Marchers in Washington, D.C. with tanks, bayonets and tear gas. FDR attested to the book's scarcity when inscribing another copy to William D. Hassett: "One of the rarer ones -- nobody read it or kept it." Halter T532.
