FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO MRS. THOMAS HASTINGS on the front free endpaper: "Inscribed for Mrs. Thomas Hastings at the request of David Gray with a Merry Xmas from Theodore Roosevelt Dec 25th 1910." ADDITIONAL INSCRIBED BY DAVID GRAY beneath Roosevelt's inscription. David Gray was later the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland during World War II, appointed by Franklin Roosevelt. He served 1940-47 and was the uncle of Eleanor Roosevelt. His wife, Maude Hall, was the sister of Eleanor Roosevelt's mother. VERY FINE.
