FIRST EDITION, A FINE COPY OF "THE MOST POPULAR BOOK OF MARITIME ADVENTURE OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY" (Hill). This is the official account of Anson's voyage which began in 1739 as a means to harass the Spaniards on the western coast of South America and to prevent Spanish supplies from reaching the Pacific. Among Anson's many prizes was the treasure of 400,000 pounds siezed during the capture of the Manila galleon in June 1743. Hill, p.318; Sabin 1625.
