TURRECREMATA, Johannes de. Expositio regulae S. Benedicti. Paris: Pierre Levet, for Nicolaus Militis, 4 May 1491. Chancery 2° (230 x 170mm), 162 leaves, A1 misbound before the table, Gothic type, printed in double column, headline, initial spaces with guide-letters, printer's device on A1 (small wormholes in first several quires, A1 lightly soiled and mounted, dampstain at bottom of 2 table leaves), 19th-century calf blocked in blind (rubbed, spine worn with split at upper hinge), modern archival box. Provenance: Paris, Augustinian abbey of St. Victor (contemporary anathema and later inscriptions, marginal annotations trimmed and washed), bookplate (1).
Only 15th-century edition of this commentary on the Rule of St. Benedict, written as an aid in the reform of the Benedictine order. BMC tentatively calls for blank leaves 4 and 5, but the collation without these leaves given by Polain is more likely correct (as acknowledged by BMC); the present copy and the previous copy sold at auction (Christie's, 28 June 1995, lot 123) collate as Polain. HC *15734; BMC VIII, 100; Polain(B) 3863); Goff T-516.
