Lot Essay

The piece has the appearance of being cast, the edge is filed with raised rims similar to the Berlin illustration and the obverse legend is most unusual. Curiously, a similar coin from different dies has the mint signature altered to read ÆLFHERE ON DOFE (SCBI Glasgow 1014).
