Lot Essay

The very worn condition of the few extant Sixpences of Elizabeth without a date has led to uncertainty as to whether they were struck without a date or whether the date has been subsequently erased. This piece is in unusually good condition. It is from a different obverse die, but apparently the same reverse die, as the no date Sixpence listed in Seaby Coin and Medal Bulletin, April 1966 no.SX4A. This would argue in its favour.
