Each with turned tapering and reeded toprail, above a pierced, scrolling splat centred by a foliate tablet, the caned seat with squab-cushion covered in brown chequered cotton, on sabre legs, one chair stamped on the underside of the back seat-rail 'W. BLACKBURN', another stamped 'SS' on underside of front seat-rail, three chairs with scratched inscription 'HARRIS' on the underside of the seat rail, restorations (6)

Lot Essay

The stamp may well be that of William Blackburn of 14 Dean Street, Soho, London, a chair and sofa maker, who is recorded in 1828-9 (see Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1986, p.77)
