A Derby lozenge-shaped comport
painted in the manner traditionally associated with Richard Askew with a vignette of a putti with a drum holding a triangle among clouds, within an oval gilt-line cartouche below a band of dark-blue 'jewels' and gilt husk ornament, the border possibly painted by William Billingsley with sprigs of roses within lobed cartouche on a dark-blue ground gilt with anthemion embellished with white 'jewels' below a gilt-line rim, puce painted mark, and lilac 1, circa 1785 (minor scratches to enamel and rubbing to gilding) -- 32.5cm. wide
