According to the late Dr. Eric Till, this card-table came from Quenby Hall in Leicestershire. Quenby Hall is one of the great houses of the early 17th Century. The H-shaped brick mansion was built for George Ashby, and was altered in the 18th and early 19th Centuries. The house was extensively photographed in the early 20th Century for Country Life (see C. Latham, In English Homes, London, 1907, Vol. II, p. 245; H. Avray Tipping, English Homes: Early Renaissance, London, 1912, p. 371 and English Homes: Period III, London, vol. I, 1922, p. 284 and Country Life, 1904, p. 342, 1911, p. 550, 1920, p. 836).
