The rectangular landscape scene with two of gentleman out shooting at Cresswell Crags, Derbyshire, by a thatched watermill, with a blue border and a concave-moulded giltwood frame, inscribed in pencil on the reverse 'After a picture by J. Stubbs Engraved by W. Woollett'

Lot Essay

The painting of Two Gentlemen out shooting at Cresswell Crags, Derbyshire, 1766-7, from which this picture is taken, is now in a private collection in the United States of America. It is illustrated in B. Taylor, Stubbs, London, 2nd ed., 1975, fig. 48.
