A finely engineered 3/4in.:1ft scale electrified model of a single cylinder 'grasshopper' beam engine
with unlagged cylinder 2¼in. bore x 5½in. stroke with centrally mounted valve chest, studded stuffing boxes, wedged and cottered crosshead, cast double beam, barrelled connecting rod with wedged and cottered and marine type bearings, entablature supported on two 'Doric' columns, rod driven feed pump, waisted crank, the crankshaft running in a single bearing with spoked flywheel (loose on the crankshaft) and chain and sprocket drive from a motor concealed in the base. Further details include gear driven cross-arm type governor, linkage and butterfly valve housing, finished in green and polished brightwork and mounted on a display base with brass plate engraved 'Model of a Grasshopper Beam Engine 1879 as used in English engineering works and breweries scale ¾in:1ft' -- 20 x 21½in. (50.8 x 54.6cm.). Wood framed glazed cover.
