the circular section goblet raised on a leaf and berry motif pedestal foot, with an engraved inscription PRESENTED TO; THE MESS H.M. 101ST; ROYAL BENGAL FUSILIERS; BY; CAPT'N ADAIR BUTLER V.C.; ON PROMOTION; 16TH JANUARY 1863, sold with a copy of S.O. Beeton, editor, Our Soldiers and the Victoria Cross - 16.4cm (6 1/2 in), 14oz.

Lot Essay

Thomas Adair Bulter was given the Victoria cross for his actions at Goomtee. His heroism is mentioned and an etching of him is illustrated in the above mentioned book on page 240-241.
