A GEORGE II MAHOGANY CARD-TABLE
The hinged rectangular eared top with a green baize-lined playing- surface flanked by four counter-wells, above a frieze, enclosing a drawer to the right-hand side, with gadrooned moulding on gateleg-action cabriole legs headed by acanthus-scrolls, with claw feet, one of the pad feet to the reverse with later tip, with the original description from the 1905 Christie's catalogue to the inside of the drawer

Lot Essay

A related table with similar shaped and reed-gadrooned top, but differently carved legs terminating in claw feet, is illustrated in H. Cescinsky, The Old-World House, Its Furniture and Decoration, London, 1924, p. 181. A further related tea-table with similar eared top and acanthus-headed legs terminating in claw feet, was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 6 June 1996, lot 20.
