Lot Essay

The circular table on hollow-sided 'altar' pedestal derives from a pattern in Thomas Hope's, Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, London, 1807, (pl. XXXIX). While Hope's table was also decorated with Etruscan-black inlay, this table's foliated ribbon border also reflects the contemporary French fashion.
