FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE of the author's second book; of the 2500 copies printed only 1650 were bound and of those a paltry 650 copies sold. Ballou later bought the remaining copies (see following lot) and it has since become the most popular of Steinbeck's three early novels. Scarce and especially so in this condition.
