Lot Essay

Malnovitzer is noted for his religious genre scenes, as well as his expressionist secular paintings (see lot 38). Kiddush Levana is a prime example of the former. Malnovitzer's lush pallet seductively brings to life the Kiddush Levana (Blessing of the Moon), a monthly prayer to God performed under the moon.
