Lot Essay

This work was attributed to Bambini by Professor Ugo Ruggeri, who compared it stylistically to the Comunione miraculosa di Santa Teresa and San Giuseppe che salva la Santa e le sue compagne da un precipizio in Santa Maria degli Scalzi, Venice (see R. Pallucchini, La Pittura veneziana del Seicento, Venice, 1981, II, fig. 1192; and R. Radassao, 'Nicolò Bambini, "pittore pronto, spedito e universale"', Saggi e Memorie di Storia dell'Arte, 22, 1998, figs. 88-9). Professor Ruggeri suggests a date post 1712, probably from the 1720s, for the present work.
