Woodcut title device of arms of Pope Paul III, ornamental woodcut borders, some incorporating woodcut portraits of saints, 7 woodcut vignettes in text and 6 half-page woodcut scenes at pp. 131v-132v. (Some browning and foxing.) Modern quarter vellum, marbled boards (a trifle soiled). Provenance: ownership inscription on title-page ("BB. Casa. Biblioteca communis"); stamp "CVPF".

First edition of the New Testament in Ethiopic, edited by three Abyssinian monks of the Monastery of San Stefano at Rome. This copy contains the Latin title-page and preface, not present in all copies. Owing to manuscript imperfections, the editors themselves had to supply portions of Acts, translating from the Latin and Greek. Darlow & Moule 3562.
