2 volumes, 8o (200 x 138 mm). Engraved plate and 251 engraved portraits of Popes and 4 additional engraved portraits at end of volume II. Contemporary Italian limp vellum, edges stained red and blue, spines ink lettered, 4 pairs of leather ties. Provenance: Armorial ink stamp on title; early ink marginalia to some leaves and plates.

A fine chronological portrait gallery of the Popes, starting with St. Peter and ending with Pope Pius VI. Such portrait collections were produced in various editions and by various engravers and printers from the sixteenth century on, most notably those of Johann Huttich (1551) and Giovanni Cavalieri (several editions in the 1580s and 90s). The portraits here are unsigned and the work is not listed in the British Museum catalogue, Cohen-De Ricci or Brunet. (2)
