A GRAECO-ROMAN BONE COSMETIC PYXIS

The slightly tapering cylindrical body decorated in relief with a seated Eros resting on his left elbow and looking back over his shoulder towards another Eros who holds out a bunch of grapes in pursuit of a butterfly which flutters above a fruit laden basket, with separate disc lid, one side engraved with sixteen-petalled rosette, the other with concentric circles, repaired and rim in two pieces, 2 in. (5 cm.) high; a Roman silver circular shallow dish, the interior tondo chased with a bird on a branch within a wreath of buds, with two scrolling horizontal side handles, each decorated in relief with leafy tendrils and flower buds flanked by two petalled rosettes, possibly 2nd Century A.D., 6½ in. (16.5 cm.) diam.; a Syrian rectangular steatite container, 6½ in. (16.2 cm.) long; two Egyptian bronze ibis feet, 8½ in. (22 cm.) long max.; and a Byzantine marble statue of a seated ram, 7½ in. (19 cm.) high (6)
