Lot Essay

These drumsticks were offered as a prize in the fifth competition to be held by the Beatles Monthly, February, 1965. The competition asked fans to think of a caption to accompany a photograph of Paul McCartney and one of the prizes was ...a pair of drumsticks actually used by Ringo!.... The winners were announced in the April issue, the vendor winning with a caption which sounds ironic in retrospect Poor Lennon! I knew him well. When the vendor received the drumsticks through the post, she recalls that they came with a note stating that Ringo had used the drumsticks at one of the Hammersmith Odeon concerts that year.
