A Leeds Pottery (Hartley Greens & Co.) creamware plate
printed in black with a crowm entwined with a scrolling banner inscribed GEORGE IV/CROWN'D July 19th. 1821, flanked by roses, thistles and shamrocks within a roundel, below a black-line rim, impressed mark, circa 1821 (a tiny chip to the rim and some scratches to the print) -- 19cm. diam.

Lot Essay

Cf. John & Jennifer May, Commemorative Pottery 1780-1900 (1972), p. 44, pl. 65. The Mays note that these plates are said to have been made especially for the Leeds Parish Church School Coronation dinner in 1821.
