Mallard rising in the Reeds

The present watercolour is an early example of the artist's work, painted in 1929 a year after he took over his father's medical practice in Cambridge. In 1945 he left the practice to pioneer field study centres and pursue his love of painting. (See J. Busby The Living Birds of Eric Ennion, Bury St. Edmunds, 1982.)
