An Italian ormolu-mounted parcel-gilt ebonised and pietra dura cabinet
In the Neo-Renaissance Style, Last quarter 19th Century
Decorated to the front with an intricate design of shaped and circular marble panels including Testaccio, cipollino rosso, verde antico and others, the upper section with block-headed cornice above a frieze and two doors with fielded panels centred with a raised floral pietra dura panel, enclosing a fitted architectural interior decorated with ormolu classical masks and the figures of Ceres and Pomona and centred around a pair of arched doors flanked to either side by two blocks of secret drawers with further apparent drawers above and below, above a plinth drawer, the lower section with a frieze drawer and two fielded doors each centered with pecorella minuta shaped raised panels, enclosing one shelf, on block feet

Lot Essay

A related Florentine cabinet, inlaid with marble and pietra dura and dating from around 1880, is illustrated in G. Wannenes, Mobili d'Italia Ottocento, Milan, 1987, p. 148, fig. 266.
A virtually identical cabinet was sold in these rooms 2 March 1995, lot 128.
