Lot Essay

Cremer & Son are known to have been at 210 Regent Street from 1862 to 1873. It seems he gave himself licence when marking products that he sold, as he imported many of his wares from Europe and others were made by small manufacturers. According to The Encyclopaedia of Dolls by the Colemans, Cremer gave out a picture of a similar Rohmer doll dressed in 18th century Watteau style to purchasers of his dolls, which would indicate that he sold many French fashionable dolls.
