Lot Essay

This is an exceptional example of the same image as that used for plate IV in the first part of The Pencil of Nature, which was issued in 1844.

The "LA" [Lacock Abbey] reference number on the back of this print confirms that it came from the Talbot family archive, where it is likely to have remained until the 1960s or later.
