Lot Essay

Modelled on the ancient Egyptian cat, mau, the present work belongs to the series of highly stylised small feline bronzes produced by the prolific and popular Swiss-born sculptor, Théophile Steinlen and edited in limited numbers by Hébrard.

Accompanying this lot is a copy of the original purchase receipt for the bronze, for the sum of 200 Francs and dated 18 March 1913.
