An 18th Century[?], possibly stern, polychrome marine carving
finely carved from slatted soft wood, possibly lime, and depicting a young boy in a loin cloth holding a streaming flag[?] reclining on a stylised dolphin, finished in red, green blue and 'flesh' (two sections of tail missing) -- 31½in. (80cm.) long

Lot Essay

This carving is likely to have come from a private vessel and been one of a pair mounted on or near to the stern facing each other. There appears to be a space by the boy's hand which may have originally held a spear, trident or similar.
