Two well presented and detailed 1:18 scale sailing barge waterline models of the James Piper and the Lady of the Sea
built by E.J. Walpole with masts, booms, standing and running rigging, full suits of 'stitched linen' sails, winches, covered cargo hatches, rope coils, crew and other details. The hulls with rudders and finished in black and set sailing on a port reach in a painted and moulded sea within a wood bound glazed display case. Measurements overall -- 7¾ x 12¼in. (19.5 x 31cm.)

Lot Essay

The James Piper was built in 1896 and broken up in the 1950's; the Lady of the Sea, a stumpie barge, was built in 1931 and now serves as a barge yacht.
