bearing marks resembling a rubbed Paris maker's mark, a Paris date-letter 'P', the charge mark of Jean-Jacques Prevost, struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold
Octagonal box, the cover studded with silver-mounted rose-cut diamonds on a translucent green enamelled wavy guilloché ground and centred by a quadrilobed enamel plaque painted in green sepia with an oval reserve of a lady and Cupid standing at an Altar of Love, surrounded by colourful flowers, the four sides, four corners and base inset with matching enamel plaques painted with putti at various pursuits, the eight sides pilasters chased and engraved as classical columns hung with laurel swags, the upper border of the sides engraved with ovolos on a band of horizontal reeding hung with laurel festoons, the lower border chased with matted gold bands of foliate wavescrolls centred by shells
