A VICTORIAN SILVER-GILT MOUNTED HARDSTONE SCENT-FLASK
Scottish, circa 1840/1860
Barrel-shaped flask of circular section, with tapering ends, encrusted with five horizontal rows of rectangular or trapez-shaped hardstone panels including vari-coloured banded or mottled agates, moss-agate, carnelian and bloodstone, divided by vertical narrow silver-gilt rims and horizontal bands engraved with scrolls and foliage, engine-turned silver-gilt base and hinged cover, the lid opening to reveal a second hinged cover engraved with vertical reeding
